Beards
or Berlin

Beard of Berlin_RH_edited.jpg

Beards of Berlin is a website of interviews of men – all different in ethnic, socioeconomic, sexual and gendered background – who talk about how traditional narratives of masculinity have shaped their lives. And how they have found ways to subvert these norms in reclaiming power to fashion their own identities.

Against the background of cosmopolitan spaces like Berlin, Amsterdam and London and touching on themes including fatherhood, sex, queer identity, stereotypes, violence, porn, bromance, gender fluidity, migration and intimacy, Beards of Berlin let men talk about their own personal manhood in all its myriad forms, rife with contradictions, and complexities. Their stories result in a wide and colourful array of masculinities and sexualities shaped by deeply personal views on selfhood and agency.

Sometimes emotional, often courageous and always vulnerable, Beards of Berlin gives answers to the ultimate question for every human being, shaven or unshaven: What do you see when you look into the mirror?
