Survibes / the Mikel Haman Foundation is committed to promoting the emancipation, health and well-being of the Surinamese-Dutch LGBTQI community.

We do this by providing information, seminars and lectures at events, conducting research among bicultural groups into acceptance, breaking taboos and increasing the visibility of LGBTQI people in bicultural communities, with a focus on the Surinamese, Surinamese Dutch and Caribbean community.

With that, we present the Mikel Haman Award annually during Kwaku Roze Zondag at the Kwaku Summer Festival during Pride week. The Award is presented to a queer person of color who has been demonstrably committed to the visibility and social acceptance of bicultural LGBTIQ+ people of color from the Surinamese or Caribbean community.
